Any tips/advise you can share? The time that I dread is coming again as my driver's license is about to expire in May. I haven't been doing a lot of driving for the past 3 years (as I rely more on public transpo. and hubby does the driving). And the last time I obtained my G2 license, I failed the test 3x, then it expired that I had to do it all over again (written test, G1 exit) and back to the place I dread. This time though, I wish I can graduate to G. Where is the best place to take the road test? Should I take a refresher/defensive driving course?

Check around and see if you can find a driving school that will take you out a few times and let you use their car for your road test. They will be able to correct you on what you're doing wrong and make sure you're prepared for a road test. Sometimes, it's just the difference in the size of vehicle that you use for your road test that makes all the difference.

Yeah, Mzzq's right. That is what I did, just a few lessons to make sure I had everything I needed to know. When it came time to the actual driving test the guy made me drive around the block and do the 3 point turn thing and the parallel parking and that was it. (He was good friends with my instructor). It might also make you feel more comfortable when you go to do the test as the instructor may go with you and wait while you do the test. Good luck

It's so much harder to get your license these days When I got mine in 19** ..... well it was back in the last millrnium , when you got your beginners, that made it legal for you to ride a motorcycle ..... with no helmet. I had my beginners for a while, then had a date coming up for a prom. Took my road test on Thursday, bought a car on Friday, and took my date to the prom on Saturday. It was so much easier then, don't know if the girls parents knew I had my license only 2 days.

Thanks for the tips, Mzzq and Sparky! Yes, Scorch, it's getting harder to get a license these days, indeed. And its a money grab, too. That's why I need to get that G license so that all I have to worry about in the next years is to renew it and do away with those dang road tests. I suck at parallel parking so I'll need more brushing up to do. The last time I did the test (where I pass my G1 exit), the examiner and I had a verbal argument (almost yelling match) so that it shocked me that he gave me a passing mark. I read and heard that passing a road test also depends on the mood of the examiner. Hubby can attest to that, LOL. He said she was a real b**tch. With myself, as soon as we drove off the parking lot, he already had an attitude, was rude and mean so that at the end of the test, I really gave it to him! I'm shopping around online for a driving school. Some even claim that if you're too nervous, they can actually book you for a road test on a location where there are no highways. That's probably all the way in Aurora or Orangeville. What a drive!

My wife was lucky. Her Father worked for the MTO and her tester was one of his best friends . I can't guarantee that helped, but I'm sure it didn't hurt.

Finally passed it today and got my G license!!! I was supposed to take it last April 2nd, but took the advice of the instructor and cancelled He was going off for a trip and I needed more time to improve myself. So after getting over my nervousness this morning (threw up 2x), I was able to relax during the test. The examiner was nice and put me at ease. So that helped. Plus, the instructor wasn't the type who pats your back..more like a drill sargeant, which I need.

Thanks! Kinda weird though. She didn't ask me to do the parallel parking (which I spent hours trying to perfect as I suck big time). And before the test ended, she was showing me her nail polish and chatting about jobs, fitness. I had to ask her which way to go.
